Issues with fonts when transfering from a word doc

Problem:
I like to create my text content inside a Microsoft Word document, and then copy & paste into a Google Sites page that I'm editing. Unfortunately, this process often comes with problems: the font style and sizing cannot be changed via the Google Sites editing tools. (Google Blogger has this same problem)

Solution:
I can avoid this glitch if I just copy & paste from the Word document into a Notepad document, and then copy & paste again from the Notepad document to the Google Sites editor. This extra step will strip the text of any Word related formatting.
